KB233147: Error: "Area Rendering is not supported by the server" when trying to render a map on an iPad in MicroStrategy Mobile 9.4.1

This issue is found in MicroStrategy Mobile 9.4.1 and is classified as a defect. It specifically comes up when using maps created in Visual Insight in MicroStrategy Web. The root cause is a mobile server that doesn't support ESRI mapping. The issue is resolved in versions 9.5 and above and users experiencing the issue should upgrade to avoid it.

SUMMARY:
This issue is found in Strategy Mobile 9.4.1 and is classified as a defect. It specifically comes up when using maps created in Visual Insight in Strategy Web. The root cause is a mobile server that doesn't support ESRI mapping. The issue is resolved in versions 9.5 and above and users experiencing the issue should upgrade to avoid it.
 
DESCRIPTION / SYMPTOM:
A user creates a map in Visual Insight using sales data and area-specific information such as area codes or zip codes. The map renders in Strategy Web with no issue. However, when running the dashboard in Strategy Mobile, users get the following error message:

Area Rendering is not supported by the server

 
No other information appears and no further details are available in the GUI nor in the iPad log.
 
CAUSE:
This is a known issue in Strategy Mobile 9.4.1. Basically, a function meant for a new client is running on an old mobile server which doesn't support the area rendering feature. The fix is to check if the area rendering feature is supported or not before the relevant area rendering codes are executed.
 
ACTION:
This issue is not observed in 9.5.x and newer. Users experiencing this issue should upgrade to 9.5 (both the Server and the Mobile Client) to avoid the problem.
