MicroStrategy 9s supports Usher as an authentication method. This new method of authentication uses Usher QR codes that are scanned by the Usher Mobile Application to grant access to users. The MicroStrategy Application, uses the session information in the URL to successfully request and render the QR codes to grant access to users.

Summary

Strategy 9s supports Usher as an authentication method. This new method of authentication uses Usher QR codes that are scanned by the Usher Mobile Application to grant access to users. The Strategy Application, uses the session information in the URL to successfully request and render the QR codes to grant access to users.

Symptom:

The Usher QR code is not rendered properly when trying to authenticate in a Strategy Analytics Platform as shown below:

Your request could not be processed due to a server error. Please check the Strategy Web log file for details.

In the environment shown above, the primary method of authentication is Usher. Additionally, the system has the following security setting unchecked under the Web Administrator:
Session Information is included in the URL

Finally, the following error message shows in the web log:

<exception>
java.lang.NumberFormatException: For input string: "-XXXXXXXXXX" [...]

Where the character "X" is any ASCII character between 0 and Z

Cause:

This is a known issue with Strategy Analytics Platform 9s. Currently the platform requires that the session information is included in the URL to render the Usher QR codes correctly.

Action:

This issue has beenn addressed in Strategy 9.5.1 and above. Upgrade to take advantage of the fix.

Workaround:

Enable the Session Information to be included in the URL as shown below:

  • Access the Strategy 9s Web Administrator, typically under the following URL:

    http://localhost/MicroStrategy/asp/Admin.aspx

  • Under the Security section, check the following checkbox as shown below:
Session Information is included in the URL

  • Note: A Web Server restart is not required for the change to take effect, however, all users must request the login page again for end users to see the change. To ensure that all users have to request the login page again, restart the Web Server.
