SYMPTOM
It is noticed in the DSSErrors.log that the Maximum RAM for Working Set cache is reset to 64GB when it is set to 200GB from the Intelligence Server Configuration under Governing Rules > Default > Working set. A message similar to the entry below is seen in the DSSErrors logs.
[HOST:XXX][PID:19818][THR:2651653888][Kernel][Warning] Maximum RAM for Working Set cache 204800000 MB is exceeding max value allowed, set back to 67108864 MB.
CAUSEIn Pre-9.4.1 versions, this is working as designed. On the Strategy Developer interface, maximum working set RAM can be set to a considerable value, but on the Strategy Intelligence Server side, there is a hardcoded maximum value: 2GB (2048 MB) for Win32, and 64GB (65536 MB) for other 64-bit operating systems. If Intelligence Server identifies that the user chosen value is larger than the hard-coded value, it will use the maximum amount (65536 MB). The 64GB limit originates from the Operating System itself. The OS can allocate 64GB memory available memory at the most.
However, there is no way for Intelligence Server to notify Developer directly, the only way is to update server definition in metadata and for Developer to pick up this setting from metadata again.
NOTE: In the warning message, the unit is in KB instead of MB.
ACTIONDepending on the resources available and the version installed, please set the Maximum working set RAM to a number between the following list:
-Before Strategy 9.5, the maximum limit is 64GB (65536 MB) for both Windows 32 bit and 64 bit.
-On Strategy 10.x the limit is 2 TB (2097152 MB).
WARNING:Increasing the 'Maximum RAM for Working Set cache' setting will increase the possible limit amount of RAM that can be used by the Strategy Intelligence Server. Setting this to a higher limit does not mean the memory will be set aside for immediate use by the Strategy Intelligence Server. However, if needed, that limit is available, in the same way, the Maximum RAM for cache settings behave.
