KB237279: New definition for the 'Day' attribute in the MicroStrategy Enterprise Manager 10 project

This Knowledge Base article explains the changes made to the 'DAY' attribute in the MicroStrategy Enterprise Manager project in MicroStrategy version 10.

INTRODUCTION
In Strategy 10, the Enterprise Manager project schema has been modified in several ways. An important change is a modification to the 'DAY' attribute. The change made to the 'Day' attribute is explained in this Strategy Knowledge Base Document.

NEW DEFINITION OF THE DAY ATTRIBUTE
In Strategy 9.4.1 and before, the DAY attribute had the following attribute forms:

ka04W000000OfUmQAK_0EM4400000029Fc.jpeg

It can be observed that the the ID form is defined as a Number data type. The reason for this was  because in 9.4.1 and earlier, this form was mapped to the DAY_ID column in all Look up and fact tables, where this column was an Integer. It had values such as "20150204" (i.e. Feb 04, 2015).

Starting with Strategy 10, the data type for the DAY attribute has been converted to DATE (SQL Server) or TIMESTAMP (Oracle) based on the corresponding warehouse columns. So the attribute forms in the DAY attribute now look as follows (this is for a SQL Server database):

ka04W000000OfUmQAK_0EM4400000029Fh.jpeg

This change is important to be considered because the filters defined for the DAY attribute were commonly defined as attribute DAY between (value1) and (value2). While this definition would be correct when those values were integers, this is not correct for the new data types in Strategy Enterprise Manager 10. All the custom filters defined for the DAY attribute might not be valid anymore and will have to be modified to a format that complies with the new Date data type.
