"Cannot find a function corresponding to XIRR...Cube import: failed to copy file" error appears when attempting to upgrade project to MicroStrategy 10 Secure Enterprise

SUMMARY:
This document shows one known issue that "Cannot find a function corresponding to XIRR...Cube import: failed to copy file" error appears when attempting to upgrade project to Strategy 10 Secure Enterprise. This is caused by inaccessible path specified for Intelligent Cube file directory. The workaround is to change the path and use one Strategy 10 Intelligence Server could access.

SYMPTOM:
The following error message appears in Configuration Wizard when attempting to upgrade project to Strategy 10 Secure Enterprise:

System Error 0x00000035 (53): --- The network path was not found.)

CAUSE:
This is a known issue in Strategy 10 Secure Enterprise.

These missing objects like functions, graph styles and attributes mentioned in the error message above are some out of box objects introduced in Strategy 10. During upgrade, Strategy 10 will check if these objects exist or not in the project at first. If they don't exist, Strategy 10 will report errors in DSSErrors.log and create them. So, these errors on missing objects could be ignored.

Starting from Strategy 10, some additional files need to be created in the Intelligent Cube file directory during project upgrade. Strategy 10 will report the following errors if the path specified in Project Configuration>Intelligent Cubes>General>Intelligent Cube file directory is not accessible:

  • If an inaccessible network path is specified, the error is as shown below:

ka04W000000OdWQQA0_0EM440000002C5D.jpeg

Cube import: failed to copy file C:\Windows\TEMP\1AAA45E54E8DC5587B4892BC8B11D4BE\6C7AF29644961FF7A806FD8DA6488213\73A627C54644C0B0F2A5F7AFEBBE72B3\1189F69042FCFF0335A17DA2AA3C1F87.cube to \\Server1\Cube\1189F69042FCFF0335A17DA2AA3C1F87.cube, error is MFileSystem::File::OpenDescriptor: ::CreateFileW failed for '\\Server1\Cube\1189F69042FCFF0335A17DA2AA3C1F87.cube'.
System Error 0x00000035 (53): --- The network path was not found.)

  • If an inaccessible absolute path is specified, the error is as shown below:

ka04W000000OdWQQA0_0EM440000002C5C.jpeg

Cube import: failed to copy file C:\Windows\TEMP\1F6A5678475A605DC81FFCA04A4B3866\6C7AF29644961FF7A806FD8DA6488213\73A627C54644C0B0F2A5F7AFEBBE72B3\1189F69042FCFF0335A17DA2AA3C1F87.cube to E:\Cube\1189F69042FCFF0335A17DA2AA3C1F87.cube, error is MFileSystem::File::OpenDescriptor: ::CreateFileW failed for 'E:\Cube\1189F69042FCFF0335A17DA2AA3C1F87.cube'.
System Error 0x00000003 (3): --- The system cannot find the path specified.)

Once Strategy 10 encounters problem to write files into Intelligence Cube file directory, Configuration Wizard GUI would display all the errors including those which could be ignored.

ACTION:
This issue has been fixed in Strategy 10.2. Take advantage of upgrading for a fix.

WORKAROUND:
Specify an accessible path in Project Configuration>Intelligent Cubes>General>Intelligent Cube file directory and re-try upgrade.

The Strategy Internal Reference Number for the issue discussed in this technical note is TQMS 1014882 and DE15666.
