SYMPTOM:
When running reports against Cloudera Impala 2.0, a syntax error is received, as shown below:

"Error type: Odbc error. Odbc operation attempted: SQLExecDirect. [S1000:110: on HSTMT] [Cloudera][ImpalaODBC] (110) Error while executing a query in Impala: [HY000] : AnalysisException: Syntax error in line 1:
...j``a12` WHERE(`st_qtr`=) group by `st_qtr` ...
                                                     ^
Encountered: )
Expected: CASE, CAST, EXISTS, FALSE, IF, INTERVAL, NOT, NULL, TRUE, IDENTIFIER
CAUSED BY: Exception: Syntax error"

CAUSE:
In that report SQL, subquery (select... from... statement) is included in the where condition, while, such kind of query is not supported in Strategy along with Cloudera ODBC driver for Impala.

select a12.st_qtr st_qtr_,
max(LTRIM(a12.st_qtr)) quarter,
a12.last_updt_nm last_updt_nm
from gld.gld_mv_pmo_agg_obj a12
where a12.st_qtr = (SELECT max(ST_QTR) FROM gld.gld_mv_pmo_agg_tier)

ACTION:
Use “CASE, CAST, EXISTS, FALSE, IF, INTERVAL, NOT, NULL, TRUE, IDENTIFIER” in Syntax instead.
For this specific issue, using “Strategy ODBC Driver for Impala Wire Protocol” driver will not receive this error.
