This technical note describes the error "LOGIN_MUST_USE_SECURITY_TOKEN" that is generated when creating a DSN through Connectivity Wizard to Salesforce

SYMPTOM:
While creating a DSN through Connectivity Wizard to Salesforce, the following error message occurs when testing the connection:

ka04W000000OemdQAC_0EM440000002JAc.jpeg

Connect failed.
Error type: Odbc error. Odbc operation attempted:
SQLDriverConnect.[HY000:10015: on SQLHANDLE][Strategy][ODBC Salesforce driver][Salesforce]
LOGIN_MUST_USE_SECURITY_TOKEN: Invalid username, password, security token; or user locked out.
Are you at a new location? When accessing Salesforce—either via a desktop client or the API – from outside of your company’s trusted networks,
you must add a security token to your password to log in. To receive a new security token, log in to salesforce.com
at http://login.salesforce.com and click Setup | My Personal Information | Reset Security Token.

CAUSE:
As the error message states, this issue occurs due to an invalid or missing security token. When configuring an ODBC connection to Salesforce, a security token is required with the password.

ACTION:
Obtain a security token from Salesforce.com and use the following syntax for the password in the DSN connection: passwordsecuritytoken (no space between the password and the security token). For information on obtaining security tokens, refer to Salesforce’s documentation: https://help.salesforce.com/apex/HTViewHelpDoc?id=user_security_token.htm
