KB249717: Exporting a Justified-aligned text box to PDF expands the last line of each paragraph in MicroStrategy .

Community Admin

• Strategy

SYMPTOM:
In Strategy Web, users can format a text box in a document to have "Justify" alignment, so that the words reach both edges of the text box, as shown below:

Notice that the last line of each paragraph is not justified. This is expected.
In a PDF export, however, the alignment of the last line of each paragraph is stretched out to expand completely except for the last paragraph, as shown below:

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. Create a document with a text box.
  2. Add 2 paragraphs to the text box, in which the last line of the paragraph only takes up half of the width of the text box.
  3. Format the text box to have "Justify" as the alignment
  4. Notice all lines of the paragraphs take up all the space from left to right, except for the last line. This is expected.
  5. Export to PDF. Notice the last line of the paragraph is expanded to take up all of the space from left to right, causing big gaps between the words. Notice this does not happen for the final paragraph in the text box.

CAUSE:
This is a known issue in Strategy Web.

ACTION:
Currently this issue is still being reviewed for feasibility by our Technology team and it is not scoped for any upcoming scheduled Strategy release.

WORKAROUND:
Since the issue does not occur to the final line in the text box, users can place each paragraph in a separate text box to work around the issue.
