When connecting to MicroStrategy Secure Enterprise Platform 10 using LDAP against a SQL Server Metadata Database, the following errors may be consistently seen in the log files

SYMPTOM
When connecting to Strategy Secure Enterprise Platform 10 using LDAP against a SQL Server Metadata Database, the following errors may be consistently seen in the log files:

[Metadata Server][Error][0x80041404] Database error <5>: OdbcPreparedStatement::ExecQuery failed.
  Error type: Odbc error. Odbc operation attempted: SQLExecute. [22001:0: on SQLHANDLE] [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]String data, right truncation
[Database Classes][Error] OdbcPreparedStatement::ExecQuery failed.
  Error type: Odbc error. Odbc operation attempted: SQLExecute. [22001:0: on SQLHANDLE] [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]String data, right truncation
  SQL Statement: SELECT OBJECT_ID, PROJECT_ID FROM DSSMDUSRACCT WHERE PROJECT_ID=? AND LDAP_DN_HASHED=LEFT(?, 50).

The errors are only seen in the log files and users aren't notified of anything wrong when connecting.

CAUSE
The issue is caused by a known issue with the Microsoft SQL Server Driver. The ODBC driver validates the length of the string(in this case, the LDAP DN) against the width of the column in the expression below without taking into account the fact that the result of the expression changes the length:

SELECT OBJECT_ID, PROJECT_ID FROM DSSMDUSRACCT WHERE PROJECT_ID=? AND LDAP_DN_HASHED=LEFT(?, 50).

ACTION
The error message is not encountered when using the Strategy ODBC Driver for Microsoft SQL Server. Users should switch from using the Microsoft SQL Server driver to the Strategy ODBC Driver for Microsoft SQL Server in order to avoid the issue.
