SYMPTOM
In Strategy 10.x Secure Enterprise Platform, when connecting to a Microsoft Access Database through Data Import, it fails and the user gets an error. While creating the DSN-Less connection, the path used to point to the Access file is in a shared network location.

After clicking the error's 'Details' the user will see the full error below:

There is an error on the server. Details
Database error <5>: Connect failed. Error type: Odbc error.
Odbc operation attempted: SQLDriverConnect. [HY000:-1032: on SQLHANDLE]
[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] The Microsoft Jet database engine
cannot open the file '(unknown)'. It is already opened exclusively by another
user, or you need permission to view its data.
[IM006:0: on SQLHANDLE] [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's
SQLSetConnectAttr failed

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

  1. Create an Access database file and store it in a shared network drive.
  2. In Strategy Web, Go to 'Add External Data' > Database > Microsoft Access > DSN-less Connection.
  3. Provide the shared location file path and create the connection.
  4. An error will occur stating 'There is an error on the server. Details'.

CAUSE
The user running the Strategy Intelligence Server does not have the correct permissions to access the shared network location.

ACTION

  1. On Strategy Service Manager, change the user running the Strategy Intelligence Server to a network user and restart the Intelligence Server.
  2. Provide exclusive read permissions for this user to the target remote share folder or the Access Database file. (full control for everyone on this folder is not enough for remote access)
  3. Perform a Data Import on this remote Access file and confirm it is successful.
