This technical document explains how to enable TPTAPI (Teradata Parallel Transport Application Program Interface) for a Teradata Database Instance in MicroStrategy Developer 10.0.0

SUMMARY
This technical document explains how to enable TPTAPI (Teradata Parallel Transport Application Program Interface) for a Teradata Database Instance in Strategy Developer 10.0.0

INTRODUCTION:
In Strategy 10.1, a new feature has been added to use TPTAPI (Teradata Parallel Transport Application Program Interface). This is handled by 2 new VLDB properties called “Data Retrieval Mode” and “Data Retrieval Parameters” in the Database Instance object. If needed, Strategy Developer 10.0.0 can also enable TPTAPI, which is not an out-of-the box available feature.

HOW TO
On Strategy Developer 10.0.0, navigate to the menu Administration >Configuration Managers > Database instances. Select a database object that uses Teradata, right click on it and select “VLDB Properties”, It can be noticed that there is no “Data Retrieval Mode” and “Data Retrieval Parameters” under the ”Select/Insert” category as per the screenshot  below:

To enable TPTAPI on Strategy Developer 10.0.0, it is required to edit the "VLDB.xml" file under: “C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Strategy”.

Steps to modify the VLDB.xml file:

  1. Remove the first and last lines enclosing the below section: "<!-- Disable TPTAPI for desktop" and "-->"

After removing this, it should be as follows:

  1. Save and close the "VLDB.xml" file.

The new VLDB properties for TPTAPI will now be visible under the Database Instance's VLDB properties. Users now need to set the properties as below to enable the API.

Note: In Strategy 10.1 Secure Enterprise Platform, these VLDB settings are visible out-of-the-box and users just need to set the settings as required.
