KB263208: After renaming a logical table, the old table name is still displayed in the logical table editor in MicroStrategy Developer 10.x

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

The issue described in this document has been classified as a defect by MicroStrategy. The issue occurs in MicroStrategy Developer after renaming a logical table. A workaround is available in the current document. A solution/code fix for this issue is not available in current releases but is being reviewed for a future MicroStrategy release.

SYMPTOM:
After renaming a logical table created in Strategy Developer, users will notice that the old table name is still displayed in the logical table editor.

CAUSE:
This is an identified defect in Strategy Developer 10.x. When renaming the table, the name of the logical table is updated, but the name of the warehouse table is not changed and still has the original name. The logical table editor pulls the tables from the warehouse tables rather than the logical tables, so it still displays the old name. Warehouse tables are system objects created by Strategy, and can be found in the System Objects\Warehouse Tables folder.

ACTION:
Currently this issue is still being reviewed for feasibility by our Technology team and is not scoped for any upcoming scheduled Strategy release.

WORKAROUND:
There are a couple options that users can try:

  • Let the warehouse name and logical table name be different -- The link between the tables is still fine so it will not affect the SQL being generated for reports. The only issue with this option is it could potentially cause confusion during development if developers aren't aware of the differing table names.
  • Delete the logical table and recreate it with the new name -- This way when the warehouse table system object is created, it will have the same name as the logical table.

The Strategy Internal Reference Number for the issue discussed in this technical note is DE19781.
