KB263501: Not all data labels show on line graph on Visual Insight dashboard in MicroStrategy Web 10.x.

SYMPTOM:
After enabling value data labels for a line graph on Visual Insight dashboard in Strategy Web 10.x, not all of the data labels show, like shown below.
 

 
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

1. Create a line graph on a Visual Insight dashboard.
2. Choose the setting to show Values as data labels in the visualization properties under Shapes and Data Labels.
3. Some of the data labels may be missing from the graph.

 
CAUSE:
This is working as designed in Strategy Web 10.x. The data label display has an algorithm that calculates if the label will intersect with another label, the line graph, or the edges of the graph, depending on where the label is set to appear. If that calculation determines that the label will intersect with something else, it will automatically decide to drop that label. This behavior cannot be turned off.
 
ACTION:
Currently this issue is being reviewed by Strategy for a potential code fix on an upcoming Strategy release.
