KB263564: Commands to trigger subscriptions that include “FOR DELIVERYTYPE EMAIL” fail if the reports for the subscriptions contain prompts in MicroStrategy Command Manager 10

SUMMARY:
The issue described in this document has been classified as a defect by Strategy. The issue occurs in Strategy 10.0 Command Manager when trying to trigger a subscription and the script contains “FOR DELIVERYTYPE EMAIL”. A workaround is available in the current document. A solution/code fix for this issue is not available in current releases, but is being reviewed for a future Strategy release.
 
DESCRIPTION / SYMPTOM:
In Strategy 10.0 Command Manager, users may try to execute a script such as the following:

TRIGGER ALL SUBSCRIPTIONS FOR DELIVERYTYPE EMAIL FOR PROJECT "Strategy Tutorial";

Unable to find answer for prompt ‘Select a Category’. Either this prompt has no default answer and is required, or there was an error trying to resolve the prompt answer.

• Create a report with Category, Revenue, and an attribute element prompt on Category.
  

• Create a report with Year and Revenue, and no prompt.
  

• Create email subscriptions for the reports from steps 1 and 2.
• In Command Manager, run the script TRIGGER ALL SUBSCRIPTIONS FOR DELIVERYTYPE EMAIL FOR PROJECT "Strategy Tutorial"; The subscription for the Year and Revenue report will successfully run, but the subscription for Category and Revenue will fail.

 
CAUSE:
This is an identified defect in Strategy Command Manager 10.0 when triggering subscriptions that contain “FOR DELIVERYTYPE EMAIL” and the reports for the subscriptions contain prompts.
 
ACTION:
Currently this issue is still being reviewed for feasibility by our Technology team and is not scoped for any upcoming scheduled Strategy release.
 
WORKAROUND:
The issue only occurs when the script contains “FOR DELIVERYTYPE EMAIL”. Remove this from the script, and all subscriptions will successfully be triggered. For example, instead of the script above, run the following script:

TRIGGER ALL SUBSCRIPTIONS FOR PROJECT "Strategy Tutorial";
