Javascript customization snippet demonstrating how to programmatically refresh a document at an interval within MicroStrategy Web.

In Strategy Web there is a project level preference under Preferences > General > Refresh report to either:

  1. Retrieve data from the latest valid Intelligence Server cache
  2. Re-run against the warehouse.

The icon is the same, but have different actions depending on the Preference setting.

Sometimes developers may want to refresh a report or document programmatically. This can be achieved with custom JavaScript.
Follow the steps in KB221321 on how to add customJavaScript to a Strategy page.

    1. Launch the Web Customization Editor.
    2. Create a new plug-in and give it a meaningful name. (For step by step instructions on creating a new plug-in, please navigate toHome > Web SDK > Customizing Strategy Web > Web Customization Editor > Features and Customizable)
    3. Click in Strategy Web Configurationin Application Settings view to expand the hierarchical tree.
    4. Navigate to Pages.
    5. Right click on the desired page, in this case the 'report(Report Execution)' page for reports or the 'rwd(Report Writing Documents)' page for documents and select “Create new Javascript”.
    6. In this new JavaScript file, add the following code to refresh:

setTimeout(function(){
    var button = document.getElementById("tbReExecute");
    button.click();
},10000);

Note: The JavaScript will only be triggered depending on which toolbar button you have enabled from the Web Preferences (tbReExecute or tbRefresh).
The example provided in this document is provided “as-is” and user has read the following customization warning:
