KB275924: What are the differences between bundled preferences and device preferences?

Community Admin

• Strategy

Bundled preferences are the configuration preferences in the app when the Strategy Mobile app is installed on a mobile device, stored on the device in a read-only file. The configuration preferences are preconfigured in Strategy Mobile Xcode project, saved as Preferences.xml. Refer to the MSDZ sample for more details:
Preconfiguring MicroStrategy Mobile

Device preferences is a separate writeable file stored on the device. The app uses the device preferences. Device preferences can be updated in a number of ways:

  • When a user makes changes to the configuration settings on the device
User changes are always used to update device preferences.

  • When the app makes changes programmatically
Programmatic changes may or may not be used to update device preferences, depending on the code.

  • When a mobile configuration URL is applied
New configuration settings from the mobile server are always used to update device preferences.

  • When the app is updated (not clean installed)
Bundled preferences in the app update may or may not be used to update device preferences, as described below.

For more details about whether bundled preferences update device preferences, see Customizing configuration workflow.

Note:
More elaborate programs will require additional library files and are out of the scope of this document.
