KB276555: "Other Relational Databases" missing in the MicroStrategy Connectivity Wizard running on a Unix/Linux environment

Why is the option for "Other Relational Databases" missing in the MicroStrategy Connectivity Wizard when running on a Unix Operating System?

Question

Why is the option for "Other Relational Databases" missing in the Strategy Connectivity Wizard when running on a Unix Operating System?

Answer

This is working as designed. Unix Operating Systems allow the installation of the ODBC drivers in any desired location without necessarily keeping a unique directory listing of the installed drivers (i.e. several ODBC.ini and ODBCinst.ini can exist)

Therefore, unless every driver was always installed in a specific location inside the Strategy installation path, offering the option for "Other Relational Databases" would not be possible.

Hence, to create DSNs using 3rd party drivers not provided by Strategy, users are required to add entries to the Strategy odbc.ini file directly.
