KB288425: URL API to pass multiple object prompt answers failed when submitted using a POST method

• Strategy

This Knowledge Base article describes that URL API to pass multiple object prompt answers failed when submitted using a POST method. This is because %1B is incorrectly encoded to %251B. The solution is to use Instead of using %1B.

SYMPTOM:
In Strategy Web, it is possible to open a document which contains object prompts via URL API. According to Passing Value and Object Prompt Answers in the URL, “%1B” is used as a separator when one prompt is answered with multiple objects:

The URL runs correctly if put directly in address bar. When embedding this URL to a form that submits the request using the POST method shown in KB18028, the URL API fails with only one object being passed.

CAUSE:
%1B represents ESC in ASCII. When directly run in a URL, it is correct. However, when it is embedded into an html page, % is encoded to %25. Therefore, %1B is incorrectly encoded to %251B.

ACTION:
Use  instead of %1B.
Original URL using %1B

Replace with URL using

<input type="hidden" name="objectsPromptAnswers" value="8D679D3711D3E4981000E787EC6DE8A4~12~Category^4C051DB611D3E877C000B3B2D86C964F~4~Profit4C05177011D3E877C000B3B2D86C964F~4~Revenue" />
