KB288453: The analytical engine generates the SQL script and replaces empty date value to "1899-12-30 00:00:00.000" when empty value object is selected in a view filter in MicroStrategy

This article notes an issue with null date attribute IDs

SYMPTOM:
The issue occurs in Strategy. When a view filter on attribute and NULL date value object is selected, the analytical engine will generate the SQL script and replace the empty value to "1899-12-30 00:00:00.000". Therefore, the report returns no data.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. In Strategy Tutorial Project data warehouse, add a new line to table 'LU_DAY', and set column 'DAY_DATE' no value (not NULL but empty value).

  2. Create a simple report in Developer, add attribute 'Day' to report template. Create a view filter on 'Day', select the empty value object.

  3. Execute the report, and no data returns. In SQL View, following SQL script is in Analytical engine calculation steps section. The analytical engine generates the script, and replaces the empty value to "1899-12-30 00:00:00.000"

  4.
    select [Day]@[DAY_DATE]
    from Day test
    where [Day]@[DAY_DATE] in (1899-12-30 00:00:00.000)

CAUSE:
This is caused by the null attribute ID present for the date attribute. Null attribute IDs are not supported in Strategy

ACTION:
Replace the null with an actual piece of data
