KB288840: Error message "StartUpManager::StartUpManager(): LoadServerDef failed. Return Code: 0x80041A81" appears when users start MicroStrategy Intelligence Server

SYMPTOM:
When users start Strategy Intelligence Server 9.x from Service Manager, it takes about 30 seconds and then the service shows stopped, without any error message from the GUI. But the following error message is recorded in DSSError.log:

[Kernel][Error] StartUpManager::LoadServerDef(): ItemByName of DSSDataSourceEnumerator for name = <CastorServer> failed: HResult = -2147214719.
[Kernel][Fatal] StartUpManager::StartUpManager(): LoadServerDef failed. Return Code: 0x80041A81.

CAUSE:
Intelligence Server has its connection information stored as a data source called 'CastorServer'. Also within this registry key is the Server Instance, which defines the server definition to be used once the metadata is accessed. One possible cause is the current server definition is damaged and cannot be loaded.
ACTION:
Creating a new server definition can resolve this issue.
