KB289634: Remote Intelligent Cubes are not loaded into memory after restarting MicroStrategy Intelligence Server 10.x

This technical document covers a known issue affecting MicroStrategy Secure Analytics Enterprise 10.x clustered environments. This issue prevents the nodes in a MicroStrategy cluster to successfully load the remote Intelligent Cubes into memory once the MicroStrategy Intelligence Server node is restarted. This has been fixed in MicroStrategy Secure Analytics Enterprise 10.3.

SUMMARY
This technical document covers a known issue affecting Strategy Secure Analytics Enterprise 10.x clustered environments. This issue prevents the nodes in a Strategy cluster to successfully load the remote Intelligent Cubes into memory once the Strategy Intelligence Server node is restarted. This has been fixed in Strategy Secure Analytics Enterprise 10.3.

SYMPTOM
This issue affects Strategy Analytics Enterprise 9.4.1 Hotfix 8, and Strategy Secure Analytics Enterprise 10, 10.1 or 10.2.

When using a 2 (or more) Intelligence Server nodes cluster, and publishing Intelligent Cubes from various nodes; once an Intelligence Server node is restarted, all the Intelligent Cubes that were published in the remote nodes will not be loaded in memory after startup. Only the locally published Intelligent Cubes will be available in memory for each restarted node.

This happens even when the settings “Load Intelligent Cubes at Startup” and “Load Intelligent Cubes into I-Server memory upon publication” have been checked. Also, it is verified that the foreign cubes are in a loaded status before the Intelligence Server restart.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  • Configure a 2 node Intelligence Server cluster.
  • In node 1, create Intelligent Cube 1 and publish it. Its status will be R.L.F on both nodes.
  • In node 2, create Intelligent Cube 2 and publish it. Its status will also be R.L.F on both nodes.
  • Shut down node 2 and wait until it stops.
  • Shut down node 1 and wait until it stops.
  • Start node 1 and wait until it is fully started. It can be observed that the Intelligent cube 1 is successfully loaded into memory and shows the status R, L, F. However, Intelligent Cube 2 will not be loaded in memory.
  • Start node 2 and wait until it is fully started. It can be observed that the opposite situation is seen here. Intelligent cube 2 is successfully loaded into memory and shows the status R, L, F while Intelligent Cube 1 will not be loaded in memory.

CAUSE
This is a known issue affecting Strategy Secure Analytics Enterprise 10, 10.1 and 10.2.

ACTION
This has been addressed in Strategy Secure Analytics Enterprise 10.3. Upgrade to this version to take advantage of the fix.
The Strategy Internal Reference number or this known issue is DE28496.

WORKAROUND
This only affects the Intelligent Cube loading into memory at the time of Strategy Intelligence Server startup. Therefore, newly published Intelligent Cubes will successfully be loaded on all nodes. Also, all existing cubes can be manually be loaded into memory once the nodes have been started.
