KB297806: "Unknown content type" error appears when editing a subscription in MicroStrategy Web 10.0 - 10.3

SUMMARY:
This technical note documents a known issue that occurs when trying to edit a subscription created using the bursting feature, in Strategy Web 10.0 - 10.3.
 
SYMPTOM:
When editing a subscription from Strategy Web 10.0 - 10.3, the following error appears and the subscription editor does not open:

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

    • Create a document with two datasets that do not have all their attributes in common.
    • Add one attribute from the second dataset, that does not exist in the first dataset, to the document Grouping section.

    • Save the document.
    • Edit the document and go to Document Home menu > Subscribe to > File...
    • Click Burst and select the attribute added to the Grouping section in step 2.

    • Click OK.
    • In the Strategy Web home page, go to My Subscriptions.
    • Edit the subscription created in step 5: the error will appear.

 
CAUSE:
This is a known issue with Strategy Web 10.0 - 10.3, which occurs because the bursting attribute selected does not belong to the first dataset that was added to the document.
 
ACTION:
This issue has been resolved in Strategy 10.4. Upgrade to this version to take advantage of this fix.
 
WORKAROUND:
The issue will not occur if the bursting attribute(s) belong to the dataset that was added in the first place to the document.
