KB299123: How to control the data load of specific tables in MicroStrategy Enterprise Manager

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

SUMMARY:

In MicroStrategy version 9.x, it was possible to control the data load of specific lookup items by manually modifying the registry to either "Ignore Time Window", which would load specified lookup items regardless of modification or creation time, or "SkipMigration" which would not load the specified lookup items. This information is provided in the following Technical Note:

KB42550: How to control the data load of specific tables in MicroStrategy Enterprise Manager 9.x.?

With the release of MicroStrategy Secure Enterprise 10.x, Enterprise Manager has received a significant redesign and it is no longer possible to change this by manually modifying the registry.

The following steps can be followed in order to implement the features described in the above Technical Note in MicroStrategy Enterprise Manager 10.x (example below is for the table IS_REP, the lookup table for reports):

  1. On a machine with access to the Enterprise Manager 10.x warehouse tables, open up DB Query Tool.
  2. Run the following SQL(will change depending on the item):
     update EM_ITEM set EM_TRACKED=2 where EM_ITEM_ID in (8,108)
    • The value 2 represents IgnoreTimeWindow, where as a value of 0 represents SkipMigration and 1 Tracked. The value of EM_ITEM_ID will change depending on what lookup item you want to change, descriptions are provided in EM_ITEM_NAME and tabulated below.
    • It's also important to make sure to change EM_TRACKED for both the item(IE: Report) and the ETL(IE: Report_ETL).
  3. Manually kick off the dataload. If the process is working, a message similar to the following should be seen for each lookup item that was changed in the MAEntMgr.xml log:<log4j:message type ="DEFAULT"><![CDATA[Starting DSS Migration for
    REPORT in Project <PROJECT>(Server: <SERVER MACHINE> with
    timewindow: 1970-01-01 00:00:00UTC TO 2016-06-15 16:14:42UTC )]]>
    </log4j:message>

The following table provides the ID, name, and table of the Enterprise Manager Warehouse lookup or relate table corresponding to item in EM_ITEM. Users can edit the required EM_TRACKED column entry depending on the table for which data load needs to be controlled.
