KB300989: How to Clear the Asterisks That Appear in the Password Text Field on the Login Page Using MicroStrategy Web SDK 9.4.1

Summary:
The password field is essentially an HTML input field with the type set to password. The masked text (asterisk symbols) is predefined by the browser. One way to make that look as if it's hidden is to set the font color using CSS customization. The font of the text in the password field will need to be set to 100% transparent so it will be completely see-through.

The following steps outline what needs to be done to carry out the customizations seen above:

1. Open the Web Customization Editor.
   
2. Click on CSS inside the CSS Settings view to expand the hierarchical tree. The expanded list comprises the different CSS files used in Strategy Web.
   
3. Navigate to CSS > Strategy Web Styles > style > mstr.
   
4. Right click on pageLogin.css > New Selector. 
   
5. Set #Pwd as the selector, apply the selector to This Page > Login, click Ok. 
   
6. Navigate to CSS > Customized Web Styles > style > pageLogin.css
   
7. Right click on #Pwd > New Property.
   
8. Set color as the property, set rgba(255, 255, 255, 0) !important as the value, apply to This Page > Login, click Ok.
   
9. Restart the Strategy Web Server and clear browser caches to apply the customization changes.
