SYMPTOM:
When loading a large intelligent cube into the Intelligence Server memory from Strategy Developer 10.x, users notice that Strategy Developer goes into a "Not Responding" state until the cube has finished loading.
This is in regards to a defect identified in Strategy Analytics Enterprise 10.x that causes Developer to go into "Not Responding" status when an Intelligent cube is being loaded in-memory.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1) Navigate to the Intelligent Cube Monitor under System Administration.
2) Find a large intelligent cube that is "A,L,F" and right click and unload it
3) View the task manager for both the Client Machine and the I-Server and note the CPU / RAM usage
4) Right click and load the cube back into memory.
5) The Strategy Developer application now shows the hourglass cursor and goes into (Not Responding) with a washed out GUI.
NOTE: It can be found that the client machine isn't using much more CPU or RAM than before. Additionally, the I-Server machine maxed out one entire core (i.e. 6-core I-server using 16.6 % of CPU).
CAUSE:
The same thread that communicates with Strategy Developer is loading the Intelligent cube into memory, therefore Strategy Developer is hanging.
ACTION:
Please contact Strategy Technical Support for information on the status of this issue.
WORKAROUND:
Wait for the cube to finish publishing, and for Strategy Developer to begin responding again.
The Strategy Internal Reference Number for the issue discussed in this technical note is US51478.
