Entering translations of strings into the translation repository generated by the Repository Translation Wizard 9.x

Once the metadata object strings have been exported into a translations repository through the Translation Repository Wizard, it is necessary to enter the translations before the strings can be imported back into the metadata. During the extraction process, the strings of the selected objects are transferred from the metadata repository to the translation database. Once this is done, the strings can be translated using a third-party translation tool.

The table generated by the extraction process of the Repository Translation Wizard contains columns that show details such as:

  • Project ID, object ID, object type, locale ID of the language in which the object string is displayed, translation of strings or empty cell awaiting translation (in appropriate language), embedded objects related to each object, and a validation of the translation.
  • Locale ID specifes the language code that the object property should be translated into. See http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms930130.aspx for a list of all common language codes. Several common language codes are shown in the table below.

Follow the steps below to enter the translate the strings that will be imported back into the metadata:

1. Enter the translated string into the TRANSLATION column, next to the language code (shown in the LOCALE ID column) for each language.

The following table lists the language codes for the languages Strategy supports out-of-the-box.

2. When the translation of the objects has been finished, run the Repository Translation Wizard again to import the translated strings back into the project's metadata.

3. To confirm that the translations have been successfully imported back into the metadata:

  • Navigate to one of the translated objects in Desktop and view its Properties.
  • Select the International section, then click Translate. The table displayed there shows all translations currently in the metadata for this object.
