KB30342: MicroStrategy Command Manager feature: Auto-complete commands in a script

Community Admin

• Strategy

The auto-complete feature can significantly speed up the time it takes users to create a Command Manager script and also will reduce the dependency to the usage of the outlines window and documentation reference

In Strategy Command Manager, users can take advantage of the auto-complete feature that will help in predicting the next words that can be included in a script statement while typing. The auto-complete feature can significantly speed up the time it takes users to create a Command Manager script and also will reduce the dependency to the usage of the outlines window and documentation reference when creating scripts.

To automatically complete a script command follow the next steps:

  • Begin typing a statement in the editing pane of the script window.
  • To see all possible tokens that can come next in the statement, press CTRL+SPACE.
  • If only one token can come next in the statement, that token is inserted into the script automatically.
  • If multiple tokens can come next in the statement, a list of tokens appears. Select the token you want from the list and press ENTER to include that token into the script.

NOTE: The auto-complete feature is available in both connection and connection-less mode.

Follow the next steps to enable or disable this feature (this feature is enabled by default).
Special Considerations:

  • The user can also press CTRL+SPACE while typing in order to complete the current word (if there is only one possible option). For example, the user could type UNR and press CTRL+SPACE to fill in the rest of UNREGISTER without having to type the complete word.

    • In Strategy Command Manager go to the Tools menu and select Options.
    • Go to the Display tab and check or uncheck the "Enable Auto-complete" option as shown in the following image:
    • Click Ok. The changes will be saved.
    • If there are no tokens that can follow a statement, activating auto-complete has no effect.
    • Reserved words that auto-complete inserts into a script are inserted in upper-case.
    • When auto-complete expects an identifier to be the next token in a statement, it inserts the name of the identifier type enclosed in double quotes ("), for example an attribute name, group name, etc.
