KB304181: Command Manager from Windows cannot connect to the Enterprise Manager server on Linux at port 9999 when there is a firewall in the Linux server in MicroStrategy 10.x

Command Manager from Windows cannot connect to the Enterprise Manager server on Linux at port 9999 when there is a firewall in the Linux server in MicroStrategy 10.x

SYMPTOMS:
Command Manager from Windows cannot connct to the Enterprice Manager server on Linux at port 9999 when there is a firewall in the Linux server in Strategy 10.x, even though the port 9999 has already been opened. Please see the error as below:

Error Code:
Unable to connect to the Enterprise Manager Server. Please make sure of the following items: 1) Server Name/IP and Port Number are correct 2) Enterprise Manager Service is running

However, the Enterprise Manager Service is running fine on Linux Server and the port 9999 is correct.
CAUSE:

    • When using Command Manager from Windows to connect to the Enterprise Manager Server in Linux, please see below netstat from Linux:
ka04W000000Of73QAC_0EM4400000029BN.jpeg
    • The netstat from windows machine where the Comand Manager installed:
TCP    Local Address              Foreign Address          State
      TCP   10.27.72.76: 50058    10.27.72.80:9999        established
      TCP   10.27.72.76: 50059    10.27.72.80:57093      established

So, it seems that Enterprise Manager server used two ports (9999 & 57093), but actually, Enterprise Manager server only use one port, which is 9999, while the other port is OS assigned receive port for Enterprise manager responds to Command Manager. Even though the port 57093 is not the port that Enterprise Manager server used, it is assigned by OS and is random, it still needs to be opened to make the communication work (as there is firewall).
ACTION:
Either of below two action can resolve the issue, please work with Network Administrator.

    1. Open this OS assigned receive port for Enterprise manager responds to Command Manager. As it is assigned by OS randomly, so no specific range can be provided, only the port is >1024.
    2. Allow the IP address for the windows machine (where Command Manager installed) to access the Linux server, while not considering the Ports.
