Users get the following error message when saving a custom group in MicroStrategy Web 10.2: Task encountered a null pointer exception: com.microstrategy.web.objects.WebOIXMLBuilder.addUniqueDependent

SYMPTOM:
Users get the following error message when saving a custom group in Strategy Web 10.2:
Task encountered a null pointer exception:
com.Strategy.web.objects.WebOIXMLBuilder.addUniqueDependent
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  • Create a custom group in Strategy Developer 10.2 and add a group with condition defined like: attribute(ID) Is Null

  • Edit the custom group and save it without any editing in Strategy Web 10.2. The following error message will be returned:

ka04W000000OefIQAS_0EM4400000025Ta.jpeg

CAUSE:
This is a known issue of Strategy Web 10.2.

Workaround:
Instead of adding the attribute (ID) Is Null condition in Strategy Developer, users can add the same condition through Strategy Web to avoid the problem. For the existing custom groups, users can edit them, removing group(s) containing the Is Null condition and add it back through Strategy Web.

ACTION:
This issue has been addressed in Strategy version 10.4 please upgrade to take advantage of the fix.
