KB30729: How to define a Excel 2007 as a datasource for Freeform SQL Report

Summary:
Data saved in Excel 2007 as .xlsx format can be used as a datasource for Freeform SQL report. Follow the steps below to create a Freeform SQL report to execute against Excel 2007.
Prerequisites:
In the Intelligence Server if 3-tier used or in the local machine if 2-tiers used, install Microsoft Office 2007.

• Create the DSN to Excel 2007, in the ODBC Data Source Administrator
  

• Put a name to DSN, and select the Excel file, in Database Version set as Excel 12.0
  

• In Strategy Desktop 8.1.x, create a new database connection, as type Generic DBM
  

• Select the DSN created in the Step 1.

• Select a user to connect for this DSN
• Close the Database Connection wizard.
• Create a new Freeform SQL report.
• Select the database instance as Excel 2007 (create in step 3)
• In this example, the Excel only have 1 sheet with the name: Table1 and 2 columns
