SUMMARY:
This issue has been classified as a defect by Strategy.  A workaround is available in the current document. A solution/code fix for this issue is not available in current releases and has been scoped for a future Strategy release.
SYMPTOM:
When browsing for objects directly from a VI dashboard (Connect Live), even if the metric options are set to be Outer, the dataset is using an inner join making no data appear in certain scenarios where it should.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. Open a Visual Insight dashboard.
  2. Browse all objects and add attribute "Call Center" and the metrics "Web Sales " and "Non-Web Sales" under Sales Metrics – Conditional Sales Metrics.
  3. On the top of the visualization click the arrow button and select More options:

  1. Select outer join for both metrics:

  1. Notice no data appears, even if there is data for both metrics.

CAUSE:
This is a known issue in Strategy Web 10.x. The outer join setting for metrics does not take effect at the template level making no data appear in the visualization.
ACTION:
This issue is being reviewed by the Technology team but has not been scoped for a future Strategy release.
WORKAROUND:
Use two datasets each with one metric and set the join behavior to Primary to be able to set the outer join for the datasets.

This will show the correct data:
