"The connection to this project has been lost or the Administrator has logged you out from this project" error is seen when trying to read tables in Warehouse Catalog from Hive 0.13 database in MicroStrategy 10.x.

SYMPTOM:
When an user tries to read tables in Warehouse Catalog in 10.x Developer from a MapR 4.1 Hive 0.13 database, below error will display and no tables are retrived from the database. This occurs in Strategy Developer 10.x in both 2-tier and 3-tier.

The connection to this project has been lost or the Administrator has logged you out from this project. All the open windows for this project will be closed.

User will find that the connection isn't actually lost as there is no prompt to relog into the project nor is the user logged out of the project source.

CAUSE:
One possibble cause is due to the number of tables that Warehouse Catalog tries to retrieve from the Hive database.

ACTION:

Enable the option "Use Current Schema for Catalog Functions" in the Advanced tab in the Windows ODBC Apache Hive Wire Protocol Driver menu. This can be found by opening the 64 bit Windows ODBC administrator and configuring the DSN that's being used by Warehouse Catalog.
For Linux, enable this option by changing the value from 0 to 1 for this parameter. It's included by default for the Apache Hive Wire Protocol DSN in the ODBC example file.
This will limit the tables being retrieved to the current schema and should reduce the amount of time required to get results.

ADDITIONAL TROUBLESHOOTING:
If possible, setup a 2-tier connection and use DB Query Tool to check how many tables are displayed be default when connected via the DSN that's being used by Warehouse Catalog. If the solution above does not resolve the issue, please consider calling Strategy Technical Support with the following information of troubleshooting already done:

  • Exact name of the project that's affected
  • Results or output of following the above solution or workaround steps
