SUMMARY
This Technical Note describes an issue where Drag and Drop functionality breaks after installing the Microsoft Windows Update Security KB3184122 in Strategy 9.4.x, 9.5.x and 10.x. A fix is provided in the form of a patch to apply to the affected Developer machines.
DESCRIPTION
In Strategy Developer 9.4.x, 9.5.x and 10.x, Drag and Drop functionality no longer works in the report editor, template editor and document editor (only grids/graphs break with the document editor), after installing the Microsoft Windows Update Security fix KB3184122 which is available at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=53715. When a user attempts to drag and drop objects no object is selected or moved.
CAUSE
This issue is a known issue between the Strategy product and the new Microsoft security update. There are several other issues noted as being caused by the Microsoft security update and are currently being investigated by Strategy. For the issue where Developer crashes please refer to KB311624.
ACTION
This issue has been addressed in Strategy Developer 10.6 and 10.4 HF2. Upgrade to that version to take advantage of the fix.
If an upgrade is not possible, a fix has also been developed in the form of a patch to Developer to address the problem. There are different patches for 9.4.x, 9.5.x and 10.x. Download the zip file attached and install it on all the necessary Developer machines.
Follow the instructions from the included readmes to install the patches.
WORKAROUND
There are temporary workarounds which can be used until the fix above is applied to an environment.
Option 1:
The objects can be added to the report template by using a Double Click or right clicking on the object to be added and select the Add to Rows or Add to Columns options, as shown:
Option 2:
The Microsoft security update can be uninstalled. This permits drag and drop functionality to work again.
