SYMPTOM:
When running a service, the service fails and the following error is thrown via a pop-up dialog box in Strategy Narrowcast Server 8.1.x:
"Error: Information object returned an error."
Further symptoms include that no errors are seen in the delivery engine (DE) logs or system message viewer of the System Administration Console in Strategy Narrowcast Server 8.1.x when the service is run. The error above is only given as a pop-up dialog box to the user.
CAUSE:
This issue has been known to happen when the Strategy Narrowcast Server 8.1.x Distribution Manager (s) (DM), and Execution Engine(s) (EE) and have not been restarted in a long period of time after heavy system usage/workload, e.g. 4-6 weeks; which left the system in an unresponsive state due to resource depletion, e.g. idle database connection threads that are hung etc.
ACTION:
If these exact symptoms are consistently observed, it is recommended to perform a series of periodic therapeutic restarts of all of the Strategy Narrowcast Server 8.1.x components, this includes any Distribution Managers and Execution Engines, to ensure their proper function and optimal performance.
Once all the components (and their associated/respective Windows services) have been restarted the service will execute successfully and no error will be thrown in Strategy Narrowcast Server 8.1.x.
