How to increase the number of back up files created for DSSErrors.log

In Development environment or when troubleshooting some issues with more diagnostics logging turned on, the administrator may need to keep more than one DSSErrors.log back up files.

 

In order to modify the maximum number of files to be backed up from DSSErrors.log, users should follow the steps below:
 

  1. Open the Windows Registry Editor.
  2. Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\MicroStrategy\Log Destinations\DSSErrors
  3. Right mouse click on the MaxBackup key and select Modify
  4. Set the maximum number of DSSErrors.log files to be backed up on the machine. The default is set to 1. Ensure that the value is set as hexadecimal: Windows environments:

  1. Edit the MSIReg.reg file, located in the Home folder of the Intelligence Server installation with a text editor
  2. Locate the following entry: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MicroStrategy\Log Destinations\DSSErrors] 
  3. Modify the "MaxBackup" key below the entry above. The value is specified in hexadecimal format:"MaxBackup"=dword:00000001  

REGISTRY MODIFICATION

Modifying registry values incorrectly may cause serious, system-wide problems that may require the re-installation of Microsoft Windows NT. Any edit of the registry is done at the user's own risk. Since these are user-initiated changes, they are not covered by any MicroStrategy warranty. If using Microsoft Windows NT, the user should back up the registry and/or update an Emergency Repair Disk (ERD) prior to alterations.
