KB31211: “String data, right truncated. Error in column #” error message occurs when attempting to run a report containing an attribute with BLOB datatype in MicroStrategy against Oracle

SYMPTOM:
The issue may be reproduced through the following steps:
 

• Consider a table called BLOB_TEST in an Oracle database as follows:

  The IBLOB field contains an element that is larger than 32,000 bytes.
  
• Create an attribute in Strategy Developer called ‘BLOBTEST’ with its ID form mapped to BLOBID and the DESC form mapped to IBLOB.
• Create a report comprising the attribute BLOBTEST. Execute the report and the following error is obtained:

NOTES:

• This issue can be reproduced with the Strategy ODBC Driver for Oracle Wire Protocol driver on both Windows and UNIX/Linux platforms.
• This issue can be reproduced with the native Oracle ODBC driver as well.

 
CAUSE:
This is a known limitation in the Strategy Query Engine. There is a standing enhancement to support more than 32000 bytes.
 
ACTION:
Currently this issue is still being reviewed for feasibility by our Technology team and it is not scoped for any upcoming scheduled Strategy release.
