KB31422: How to define if an attribute should be inner or outerjoined by default when picked from an object prompt in MicroStrategy 9.x - 10.x.

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

This technical note describes the steps to define if an attribute should be inner or outerjoined by default when picked from an object prompt in MicroStrategy 9.x - 10.x.

When using an object prompt to define the attributes in the template, the user does not have the complete list of attributes to define the outer join settings.

To assign the join properties to attributes included in an object prompt do the following:

  • Choose the "View SQL" mode of the report, to avoid executing the full report.
  • Choose all the attributes available in the object prompt

  • Go to the design view of the report, all the attribute will now be part of the template.
  • Go to the attribute outer join setting (Data -> Report Data Options -> Attribute Outer Join)
  • Set the necessary setting and choose the default behavior per attribute.

  • Save and close the report.
  • When the report is re-prompted it will remember the appropriate settings for each attribute.

NOTE:
By default all attributes are set to outer join if the default property is changed, if all attributes are set to be outer join the steps listed above do not need to be followed.
