Use HTML texts to add formatting to the 'No data returned' message such as Bold or colored text

Through the Project Configuration for Strategy, users can change the message that is displayed when a report returns no data.  However, some users want to add additional formatting to the message, either to fit with a corporate color scheme, or to draw the attention of the viewer.

In order to add some rich formatting to the 'No data returned' message such as Bold or colored text, it is necessary to use HTML tags.

Use the following steps to make the message bold and a different color in Strategy Web:

  • From the Strategy Web Admin page ensure that HTML Output is enabled by checking the various options in the Security > User Input Filtering section.

  • From Strategy Desktop, right-click the project for which the message is to be changed and navigate to Project Configuration > Report Definition > Advanced.
  • Enter in a custom message that includes HTML tags to change the format on the message such as making it bold and a different color. For example:

    Sample Code/Error

    <font color="#FF00FF"><b>Out to Lunch</b></font>

Click OK and restart the Web Application service, such as IIS or Tomcat.
  • Execute a report that does not return data and notice that the new custom message displays with bold font and in a different color.
