Community Admin

• Strategy

This article describes how to use Smart Host to configure Distribution Services to run against a specific SMTP server in MicroStrategy. This article also describes how to configure it with an anonymous authentication mode when TLS is used.

Follow the steps below to configure a specific SMTP server for use by Smart Host in Strategy Distribution Services:

Configure a specific SMTP server for use by Smart Host in Strategy (normal mode):

  • Open Strategy Desktop and expand Administration > Devices.

  • For each email device that will need to use Smart Host, perform the following steps.
  • Right-click the device and select Edit.
  • Input the name or the IP of the mail server in the designated field. Enter the username and password (mail address and login password) and select the Use Smart Host Always checkbox:

  •  Click OK.

Configure Smart Host in anonymous authentication mode:

If you want to use anonymous authentication mode for Smart Host, you can add a SMTP server IP with its port number which enables TLS. Make sure the SMTP server is already using anonymous authentication mode before you continue!
Configure the email device, as shown in the following screenshot, and create a physical address using this email device. Set this address as the recipient’s address and send an email subscription to this address. An email should be received.

As long as the User Name field is not empty (enter any text as you like), TLS is used.
If the User Name field is empty, TLS will not be used.
