KB31579: MicroStrategy Diagnostics and Performance Logging tool on UNIX/Linux operating systems does not display the XML counters required for monitoring XML generation of Report Services documents.

SYMPTOM:
The following three XML counters are not seen on Strategy Diagnostics and Performance Logging tool on UNIX/LINUX operating systems.  

• Strategy Intelligence Server Profiler\XML_GENERATION CPU Time(sec)
• Strategy Intelligence Server Profiler\XML_GENERATION Elapse Time(sec)
• Strategy Intelligence Server Profiler\XML_GENERATION Total Counts

The above counters are required when users need to monitor XML generation of report services documents as explained in the following Strategy Knowledge Base  document:

CAUSE:
This is working as designed. These counters are considered internal counters and are not exposed on the GUI.
 
ACTION:
To view these counters on the Strategy Diagnostics and Performance Logging tool on UNIX/LINUX operating systems,  the keys have to be manually added to the MSI_Reg.reg file. The MSI_Reg.reg file is located in the Strategy installation home folder. 
 
Implement the following steps to add the keys:

• Stop Strategy Intelligence Server.
• Locate the following entry in the MSIReg.reg file.

• The following keys should be added to the MSI_Reg.reg file under the entry shown in Step 2.

• After adding the above entries, these counters are shown on the Diagnostics tool as shown below. Users can now start/stop logging these counters from the tool and do not need to modify the MSI_Reg.reg file again.

Since these are user-initiated changes, they are not covered by any Strategy warranty. Users are strongly encouraged to backup the Registry file prior to any alteration.
