KB31604: How to make the Object Browser window close by default when executing a MicroStrategy Web report in 9.x

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

This technical note provides the steps to make the Object Browser window close by default when executing a MicroStrategy Web report in 9.x

SYMPTOM:
Sometimes administrators do not want the Object Browser window to appear by default in Strategy Web in order to avoid modifications to the reports. Generally, the Report Objects window appears in the interface as shown in the next image:

Administrators can customize the PageConfig.xml file on the Strategy Web Server machine in such a way that the Object Browser window will always be displayed when a report is executed. Refer to the following Strategy Knowledge Base technical notes for details:

  1. Locate the browserSettings.xmlfile. The default location is C:\Program Files\MicroStrategy\Web ASPx\WEB-INF\xml\config.
  2. Create a backup of the browserSettings file.
  3. Open the browserSettings.xml file and add following line to the .xml file.
  4. Go to 'Internet Option' and delete cookies under 'General' tab.
  5. Go to 'Internet Option' and set privacy to 'High' under 'Privacy' tab. This will block unnecessary cookies.
  6. Restart the Strategy Web server.
  7. The Object Browser window will now be present on the screen each time a report is executed:

IMPORTANT NOTE:
For best practices, use Eclipse development platform to edit the required file(s). This way separate plugin folders will be created for each customization. This will help the customization maintenance and any future investigations on issues that might occur in that environment.
