SYMPTOM:
Email deliveries may fail for certain recipients in Strategy Narrowcast Server 9.x - 10.x and newer with the following error recorded in the DELog file:
Error transmitting to recipient - 85500:(SMTP error) Permanent error during message delivery at host xx.xx.xx.xx
Enabling the SMTP trace logs, as per the following Strategy Knowledge Base technical note, generates a 550 error:
KB9762: How to generate the MicroStrategy SMTP Protocol log file -- MicroStrategy Narrowcast Server 8.x
550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for <email address>??
If the Information Transmitter is set to save to file, an EML file is successfully generated for the recipients, even though the email delivery failed.
CAUSE:One possible cause for this error is that the SMTP Exchange server cannot contact or verify the domain specified in the recipient's address.
Another possible cause is that the Strategy Narrowcast Server 9.x - 10.x, and newer, machines are not allowed to relay email messages through the SMTP gateway.
ACTION:Check with the SMTP Exchange server administrator to ensure that the Exchange server can correctly contact or verify the recipient's domain. Also make sure that the Strategy Narrowcast Server 9.x - 10.x, and newer, machines are allowed to relay email messages through the SMTP gateways.
