The ‘Maximum use of virtual address space (%)’ memory governing parameter is present in the Strategy Intelligence Server configuration > 'Memory Settings' page, as shown below:

This setting governs the maximum amount of the virtual user address space available for a process. The Strategy Intelligence Server process may use a maximum amount of this memory, denoted as a percentage. This setting applies to both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems - however, the effective use of this setting may be limited on 64-bit platforms as explained below.
The maximum space addressable by any process is limited to the virtual address space for that process. The only 32-bit operating system platforms supported with Strategy Intelligence Server are the Microsoft Windows 32-bit operating systems. In these systems, each process has a maximum virtual address space of 2 or 3GB depending on whether the user has turned on the Windows 4GT switch for the machine. The remaining address space (2 or 1 GB because of the 32-bit address can only refer to a maximum of 4GB) is reserved for use of the operating system kernel.
However, on 64-bit machines Strategy supports Unix/Linux operating systems, as well as Microsoft Windows x64 systems with the release of Strategy 9.0. In these systems, the virtual address space per process is very large compared to the typical actual physical memory available on the machine, or even the underlying hardware address capability. For example, on Microsoft Windows 64 bit platforms, the maximum virtual address space per process for the Intelligence Server Universal process is 8 terabytes (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366778(VS.85).aspx).
On both Microsoft Windows x64 as well as Unix/Linux platforms, Strategy Intelligence Server Universal assumes the virtual address space as 2^64 or 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 bytes. Even if a user were to set the 'Maximum use of virtual address space (%)' value to 1%, this would still set the Intelligence Server governing to start at 446 petabytes. As a result, the 'Maximum use of virtual address space (%)' setting is not effective on 64 bit platforms for memory governing for the Intelligence Server. Users are advised to use the 'Reserved memory for processes external to the Intelligence Server' settings instead to control the memory usage of the Intelligence Server process.
