KB319479: Users are able to see "Edit in Design Mode" option when user has "Web use design mode" privilege disabled in MicroStrategy Web 10.x

SUMMARY:
This article discusses an issue showing the option for "Edit in Design mode" within Strategy Web 10.x, even when a user does not have the associated privilege to do so.  This is an identified defect in the Strategy Web 10.x product.
 
SYMPTOM:
In Strategy Web 10.x, a Strategy user will be able to see "Edit in Design mode" in the "Report  Wizard" even when the "Web use design mode" privilege is disabled. 
 
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

• Create a new user under Strategy Web Analyst.
   
• Confirm the user has "Web create new report" but not "Web use design mode" privilege, as shown below:
  
  

• Log into Strategy Web as the user.
   
• Under "Develop", click "Create Report" and then click "Report Wizard", as shown below:
  
  

• Confirm that "Edit in Design Mode" does not appear as an option in the bottom left and go back to Tutorial Home, as shown below:
  
  

• Click the red "Create" button, then click "New Report" and then click "Report Wizard", as shown below:
  
  

• Confirm that "Edit in Design Mode" appears in the bottom left, as shown below:
  
  

 
CAUSE:
This is a known issue in Strategy Web 10.x.
 
ACTION:
This issue is already fixed in Strategy 10.9 and higher, and will be addressed in Strategy 10.4 HF7. If you are not already in this version, please upgrade to take advantage of the fix.
