KB319528: Email bursting does not work for prompted documents in MicroStrategy Web 10.x

Community Admin

• Strategy

This article explains that bursting subscriptions can be created for report services document only from editable mode.

SUMMARY
This Technical Note describes an issue in which users are not able to "Burst" to email on documents that are prompted in Strategy Web: either through an email subscription or through the send now option. The bursting feature still does not work properly even after executing the documents with prompts answered first.

SYMPTOM
In Strategy Web 10.x, the following message is seen when trying to burst on an attribute (with an email attribute form) for documents:

No bursting elements are available!

Users can still use "Burst" feature on reports, prompted reports, and non-prompted documents. Prompted reports do not have to be executed first in order for the bursting feature to work.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

  1. Create a prompted document using a report as a dataset.
  2. Without executing the document, attempt to create an email subscription for the document or select the send now option.
  3. Click on the "Burst" feature and the message "No bursting elements are available!" will be seen.

CAUSE
For prompted documents, without executing the document, the prompt answer cannot be resolved and since this subsequently causes Web to be not able to get the correct information about the required page-by bursting attributes.

ACTION
Subscriptions can be created for prompted documents by running the document in editable mode and choosing to create a subscription from the File menu.

The Strategy Internal Reference Number for the issue discussed in this technical note is DE50961.
