This article notes a limitation with scheduling the refresh of data import cubes built inside VI.

Starting with the release of Strategy ONE (March 2024), dossiers are also known as dashboards.
SYMPTOM:
It's impossible to schedule to refresh the data import cubes which are created within a VI Dashbaord as the cubes are "Managed by the system" and cannot be located in file system.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. Go to Web > Add external data > add some data  and save the cube in shared folder with name Cube 1.
  2.  After Cube 1 created, create a Dashboard.
  3. On Dashboard page, from tools menu, click the "add external data" option > add some data (Cube 2)> data is added in Dashboard Datasets > save the Dashboard.
  4. Go to file system Shared folder, Cube 1 can be located and scheduled to refresh. But cube 2 is not listed in the file system.
  5. Go to Developer Cube Cache monitor, the cache for cube 2 is listed. After search the cache ID, the cube 2 is managed by system and cannot be scheduled refresh.

CAUSE:
This is a known limitation in Strategy.
ACTION:
Currently this issue is being reviewed by Strategy for a potential code fix on an upcoming Strategy release.
WORKAROUND:
Create data import cubes as standalone objects instead creating in VI, and the cube can be located from file system and able to be scheduled refresh.
SOLUTION:
Upgrade to Strategy 2019 to resolve this issue. The video below shows how to schedule a refresh of date import cubes built inside a dossier using Strategy 2019.
