The following procedure can be used to modify the processor affinity of an existing MicroStrategy Intelligence Server instance on a Linux/UNIX environment.
Follow these steps while connected to the MicroStrategy Intelligence Server machine to modify the processor affinity settings of an specific installation: ./mstrctl -s IntelligenceServer stop
The current value of the "ProcessAffinity" entry below this key reflects the process affinity configuration used by the MicroStrategy Intelligence Server Universal 8.1.x/9.0.x instance. Below is a listing of possible values for ProcessAffinity on a four-CPU machine:
Decimal Value | Binary Bit Mask | Processors used by Intelligence Server |
1 | 00000001 | 0 |
3 | 00000011 | 0 and 1 (provided the license is for at least 2 CPUs) |
7 | 00000111 | 0, 1 and 2 (provided the license is for at least 3 CPUs) |
10 | 00001010 | 1 and 3 (provided the license is for at least 2 CPUs) |
15 | 00001111 | 0, 1, 2 and 3 (provided the license is for at least 4 CPUs) |
... | ... | ... |
The default bit mask is set as the first n processors starting from processor 0 to processor (n-1) where n is the number of licensed CPUs. When users make changes to the selected processors in Service Manager, the ProcessAffinity is updated based upon the users' selections. "ProcessAffinity"=dword:00000001
"ProcessAffinity"=dword:00000007.This would mean, based on the table above, that the value represents a decimal value of 7 (or Binary Bit Mask equal to 00000111). So the MicroStrategy Intelligence Server 8.1.x/9.0.x instance is using 3 CPUs (0,1 and 2). To change this to use only a single CPU (0), the ProcessAffinity value needs to be changed as follows: "ProcessAffinity"=dword:00000001./mstrctl -s IntelligenceServer start
