This technical note describes the error “Automation Error: The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted” that is generated when trying to import Windows Group or Windows User in MicroStrategy 9.x and newer

SYMPTOM:
In Strategy 9.x and newer, the following error message is generated when trying to import a Windows Group or Windows User.

ka02R000000kXNYQA2_0EM440000002EBT.jpeg

Automation Error: The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted

CAUSE:
This happens because the Strategy user who is trying to import Windows Group or Windows User does not have access to the windows domain.

ACTION:
Make sure that the Strategy user who is trying to import Windows Group or Windows User has access to the required windows domain. Also, this error message has been changed to “Access denied to the domain” in Strategy version 9.0.0 onwards, so that the end user gets a meaningful message instead of automation error.
