Community Admin

• Strategy

This article discusses how to rearrange the shortcuts in the Create menu using MicroStrategy Web SDK 10.5.

Using the Web Customization Editor to create a plug-in
Strategy SDK provides a Web Customization Editor that can be used to create a customization plug-in. The following steps guide you in creating the plug-in and deploying it.

  1. Launch the Web Customization Editor
  2. Create a new plug-in and give it a meaningful name. For example: RearrangeCreateMenu.
  3. Click on Strategy Web Configuration inside the Application Settings view to expand the hierarchical tree. The expanded list comprises the different settings that can be modified to perform customizations.
  4. Click on Pages to expand the list of Strategy Web Pages.
  5. Double-click on the createOptions Page.
  6. Click the Template Properties tab.
  7. Make sure the Default tab is selected.
  8. Click the Edit Shortcuts button under the Display Components section to launch the Template Shortcuts Wizard.
  9. Select Remove all shortcuts. Please note that in this specific scenario this will NOT remove the shortcuts but will create a copy of all of them inside your plugin in a pageConfig.xml file.
  10. Click Next.
  11. Click Finish.
  12. Save your changes.
  13. In your plugin folder, go to plugin_name\WEB-INF\xml and open the pageConfig.xml that was created in step 9.
  14. To sort the shortcut lists change their tag 'position=' accordingly.
  15. To sort the shortcuts within a shortcut list insert the tag 'position=' to each shortcut node and specify the desired order.
  16. For example, the create shortcut list node seen in the above screenshot looks as follow after rearranging it:

    <shortcut-list name="create" position="0">
    <shortcut append-state="true" desc="New Dashboard" desc-id="mstrWeb.9929" feature-id="dhtml;create-analysis" onclick="return submitCreateIVELink(this,event);" href="" iframe="false" name="scNewIVE" position="2">
    <event XMLmerge_id="1" event-id="com.Strategy.web.app.beans.EnumServletEvents.WebEventCreateBlankVI"/>
    </shortcut>
    <shortcut append-state="true" desc="New Report" desc-id="mstrWeb.9930" feature-id="create-view-reports" onclick="return submitCreateRptAndRWDLink(this,event);" href="" iframe="false" name="template" position="0">
    <event XMLmerge_id="1" event-id="com.Strategy.web.app.beans.EnumServletEvents.WebEventOpenCreate"/>
    </shortcut>
    <shortcut append-state="true" desc="New Document" desc-id="mstrWeb.5898" feature-id="template-documents;dhtml;documents-design-mode" onclick="return submitCreateRptAndRWDLink(this,event);" href="" iframe="false" name="templateDoc" position="1">
    <event XMLmerge_id="1" event-id="com.Strategy.web.app.beans.EnumServletEvents.WebEventOpenCreateDocument"/>
    </shortcut>
    </shortcut-list>

  17. Save your changes.
  18. Restart the Web Server.
  19. Launch Strategy Web to view the customization

The example provided in this document is provided “as-is” and user has read the following customization warning:
