KB32271: Removing a contact for a user does not clean up the user from the Contacts monitor in MicroStrategy Developer 9.4.x-10.x

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

This KB article discusses a current expected behaviour that causes "orphaned users" in the Contacts monitor.

SYMPTOM:
In Strategy Developer 9.4.x-10.x, when a contact for a user is deleted, the user itself is not cleaned up from the Contacts monitor. This leads to a collection of orphaned users (users with no contacts) in the Contacts monitor.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  • In Strategy Developer 9.4.x-10.x, create a new user called "Gordon Ramsey".
  • In the user editor for user Gordon Ramsey, navigate to Distribution Services ->Addresses and create an address as seen below:

  • The user and the address created in Step 2 appear in the Contacts monitor as seen below:

  • Right Mouse Click on the address "Work Email" and delete the address.
  • Notice that although the contact no longer exists, the user Gordon Ramsey still appears in the Contacts monitor:

CAUSE:
This is expected in Strategy Developer 9.4.x-10.x

ACTION:
Users who would like to be able to automatically clean up users from Contacts Monitor after a user contact is deleted should request this via the Ideas Exchange.
